Family visit in winter to the Vézère Valley and Roque Saint-Christophe
Are you wondering what to do for the February holidays, during your stay in Périgord or for an outing with your children? Come and discover Roque Saint-Christophe, we are open during the winter holidays and we have planned activities linked to gastronomy and music, to entertain you and make you love our heritage!
A gourmet break in Périgord Noir for the holidays
For the winter holidays, Roque Saint-Christophe, a troglodyte fort and city in the Vézère Valley, joins the “Février Gourmand en Périgord” event and opens a sweet break for lovers of sweet flavors…
What sweet delicacies did people eat in the Middle Ages? What were the “candies” of the time? The little treats or delicacies that we enjoyed at the end of meals, during breaks or in the morning? The habits and customs surrounding gastronomy with a sweet tendency will be revealed to you… Hedi will be present in the “kitchen” of Roque Saint-Christophe for an animation around this subject. Was there sugar in the Middle Ages? What were the other sweetening (sweet tasting) products? Were we baking and what style? Were sweet flavors only for wealthy people?
So many questions to answer, to sometimes dispel preconceived ideas and understand how the appetite for sweets is as old as it is durable!
February Gourmand in Périgord is set up by the Tourist Offices of Sarlat Tourisme, Pays de Fénelon en Périgord Noir et Lascaux Dordogne, Vallée Vézère. Several tourist sites in the region are participating in this operation which highlights gastronomy, according to the themes of the places hosting the activities.

Entertainment at Roque Saint-Christophe during the February holidays

Hedi will be present at “the kitchen” (a rock shelter reconstituted as a kitchen during the Middle Ages, at the end of the tour), he will give an animation on sweet flavors in the Middle Ages. Did you know what sweeteners (to give a sweet taste) were at that time? Fruits, honey, but not only that! What did we eat to enjoy a nice sweet taste in the mouth? And what were the pastries of the Middle Ages?
Pascal will be present in the old stable (at the start of the tour) to make you move and strike in rhythm, with its prehistoric musical instruments! A specialist on the subject and a fine conductor, he organizes a real paleo concert which makes the cliff resonate with a rhythm from the depths of the ages!
Thébald the falcon will be present for a new treasure hunt. A new change of winning one of our lovely collectible badges, while taking a fun and informative visit; For the whole family!
-> Meet Hedi and Pascal on Wednesday February 12, 19, 26 and Wednesday March 5, from 2 p.m. The treasure hunt is available every day.
